Diving in Lembeh: Everything You Need To Know To Plan a Trip to the Muck Diving Capital of the World
Whether you’re a muck diver at heart or not, you’ve likely heard about Lembeh, the best place in the world for spotting the ocean’s weirdest critters. Just off the coast of North Sulawesi in Indonesia, the Lembeh Strait first became popular in the mid-1990s when Larry Smith pioneered diving in the area. Today, it’s a popular diving destination, full of dive resorts and home to dozens of dive sites. Luckily for you, it’s also easier than ever to access.
In 2021, PADI AWARE Foundation committed to reaching conservation targets outlined in the Blueprint for Ocean Action by 2030.
Want to swap work suits for wetsuits? Become a scuba diving instructor through the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Instructor Examination (IE). The IDC prepares you to be a role model for future divers and gives you the skill set to teach a whole generation the beauty and value of the ocean.
In 2022, the PADI AWARE Foundation launched the Adopt the Blue initiative with a vision to create a nimble, active network of underwater sites ready for action across conservation issues and geographies. PADI AWARE Foundation, in partnership with Title Sponsor Blancpain and our generous donors, called upon PADI Dive Centers and Resorts (also called PADI Mission Hubs) around the world to adopt their local sites – and they enthusiastically delivered. In less than two years, a staggering 2,106 sites in 85 countries were ready to tackle conservation challenges.
