Being a PADI Pro means you have worked through the PADI recreational certifications and have achieved the status of professional-level scuba diver. Your qualification will be internationally recognized and will open doors to lots of exciting opportunities.

As a PADI Professional, you’ll be part of an elite group of the most recognized divers in the world.

PADI Professionals are guided by PADI’s industry-leading standards and practices, putting them into use everyday.

PADI is a recognized brand around the world. As a certified PADI Professional, you’ll be highly sought-after.

Not everyone gets to do what they love for a living. PADI Professionals are able to turn their love for diving and the natural world into a career.

As Richard Clough of English Empire Divers Okinawa experienced firsthand, “[Becoming a PADI Pro] gave me the tools I needed to escape the normal Monday to Friday monotony of life. Every day for me now is a weekend, and my passion is now helping me to provide for my family in paradise. It’s not so difficult to actually do what you want in this life, you just have to be willing to make the effort and go get it. My life was made happier when I chose this path.”

PADI is always reviewing and improving their standards and practices to ensure they remain the leaders in the industry.

Thanks to PADI’s reputation, the thousands of PADI Dive Shops and Resorts around the world are able to offer competitive wages and ensure PADI Professionals are always in demand.

As eight out of 10 divers choose to dive with PADI, students will gravitate towards you as a PADI Professional.

Once you start on the PADI Pro path, there are plenty of levels to strive for.

Pedro Magsino, a PADI Course Director from Arkipelago Divers, explains how he worked his way up through the system. “I became a PADI Pro because it became my career opportunity and more importantly I’m doing something I love, which is being in the ocean.”

Work through the multiple levels of PADI Professional certifications to create your career, your way. Whether that’s specializing in a certain field, or working to become a PADI Course Director — the pinnacle of the PADI Pro pyramid.

Becoming a PADI Pro is about more than growing your scuba diving skills. Interpersonal skills, critical thinking, teaching and leadership skills are all integral.

PADI Pros cultivate a sense of responsibility and professionalism. This maturity is regularly recognized as they take the lead in dive-related environments.

Becoming a PADI Pro boosts your dive knowledge, whether it’s physiology, physics or marine environments.

In addition to being some of the world’s best divers, PADI Pros can champion safety by becoming an Emergency First Response Instructors through our complimentary program.

In addition to the oceans, PADI Pros work in lakes, rivers, quarries, and even ice.

As their skills grow, PADI Pros also grow their knowledge of theoretical concepts, including physics, physiology, and environmental science.

PADI Pros receive support from dedicated teams at PADI’s Regional Headquarters. This means PADI Pros are never alone!

PADI Pros are in demand. PADI’s reputation ensures you can sleep comfortably knowing you have job security as a PADI Pro.

On the path to becoming a PADI Pro, you’ll refine your own scuba skills.

For Scuba Joe, this was one of the most appealing reasons to become a Pro. He told us, “I became a PADI Pro because it made me a more comfortable and confident diver.”

Part of the learning process for PADI Pros is to remain calm and focused, especially under pressure.

James Silson, a PADI Divemaster and wildlife filmmaker, used this to his advantage. He said, “I became a PADI Pro because I love taking photographs and filming underwater just as much as I do topside. Improving my own dive skills and becoming more experienced at helping others gave me the reassurance that I could focus on capturing underwater imagery to share with people without compromising my own or others’ safety.”

PADI Divemaster is just the first step of a PADI Professional ladder. Why not aim to undertake the highly respected, and competitive, PADI Course Director Training Course in order to teach new instructors?

One of the best ways to inspire others is by being a role model. Every PADI Professional is a role model for both new and existing divers.

As a PADI Professional, you’ll have a direct impact on diving innovations through your own actions and by teaching others.

For Sara Gojer, a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and PADI AmbassaDiver, this was a big motivation. She remarked,“I became a PADI Pro because I loved the idea of being a PADI Scuba Instructor. It made me more confident as a person and I cherish the feeling of helping people take their first few breaths underwater and discover the magic of Scuba Diving.”

As a PADI Pro, some of the most valuable skills you’ll acquire are the ones that can save lives, including essential first aid and rescue techniques.

Working with local communities can be an effective way to spread awareness and support ocean conservation.

Once you are a PADI Divemaster, you’ve entered a professional level of scuba diving — one that is recognized and respected around the globe. Each additional step along this path only heightens the regards in which you are held.

PADI Pros live and work in some of the world’s most beautiful locations in the world. They also do something they love, regularly encounter amazing marine life and, best of all, they get to inspire and share it all with others.

Each and everyday, you’ll help others fall in love with diving. As Khalid Alrazooqi, a PADI Divemaster and PADI AmbassaDiver, remarked, “Becoming a PADI Pro isn’t just about diving deeper — it’s about inspiring others to explore a world beneath the surface, where every dive is a new story waiting to be shared. I chose this path to turn my passion into purpose, guiding others to experience the magic and serenity of the ocean.”

Share your passion and experience the joy of teaching others. Samantha Raines, PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and PADI AmbassaDiver, explained she wanted “to share the beauty of the ocean with others by helping them learn the skills needed to experience the underwater world and life below the surface.”

Beginner divers only ever have one first breath underwater, and PADI Pros get to see these breaths happen everyday. PADI Pros then move on to helping students explore their first coral reefs, encounter marine life and learn to love their time underwater.

Whether it’s motivated by work, conservation or simple recreation, PADI Pros get to shape the next generation of divers.

According to PADI AmbassaDiver Frank Mollel, “I find peace in the ocean and as a PADI Pro, I get to help others experience that, too.”

Guide people through truly life-changing moments, whether that’s a first breath underwater, seeing a marine mammal or even showing firsthand the impact of environmental change.

Outside of the core courses, like Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver, PADI Pros teach a variety of advanced and specialty courses to help divers progress. Deep Diver, Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver and Self-Reliant Diver are all examples.

PADI Pros are part of a vast, supportive network of divers and dive instructors across the globe. Not only that, but they also work to create a community of divers wherever they go.

Having the honor of introducing students to marine life is a well known source of joy among PADI Pros.

This was definitely one of the reasons PADI AmbassaDiver Shaan Singh became a Pro. He told us, “I become a PADI Pro to help other people join this beautiful world of diving as well as to give myself confidence as a diver! Becoming a PADI Pro was a personal goal as an achievement for myself in a passion I can’t live without!”

PADI Pros learn and work with fellow PADI Pros, recreational divers and the general public, making long-lasting friendships along the way.

PADI Pros can be the difference between a one-off try dive and the beginning of a life-long obsession.

Whether your passion is for teaching, scuba diving or even the natural world, a career as a PADI Pro will allow you to turn it into purpose. Helping to save the ocean is an integral part of professional scuba diving.

Few career paths can offer the chance to meet and interact with people from so many cultures and backgrounds, both on land and in the water.

Scuba diving can be a vessel for overcoming fears, allowing divers to gain new perspectives.

After overcoming her own diving-related fears, Glenda Meade, a PADI Course Director and owner of Maple Leaf Scuba in Cozumel, decided she “wanted to help change people’s lives and turn the fearful into fearless. To teach people that they too can overcome their fears and embrace themselves in the beauty that lies below our oceans.”

You’ll build bonds and make friendships with your teachers, fellow learners and students. These relationships can often stretch beyond diving.

The guidance and training provided by PADI Pros instills safe diving practices in new divers.

By sharing the underwater world, PADI Pros foster a community of ocean-loving advocates who want to become Ocean Torchbearers. Joseph Montez, a PADI Instructor with Arkipelago Divers, said, “I became a PADI Pro because teaching is my passion and being a PADI Pro is one of the best ways I think to share knowledge about the underwater world and the beauty of ocean, especially with all the youth that loves the ocean.”

PADI Pros teach more than just diving. They also teach new divers how to love the ocean and everything in it.

Course Director and PADI AmbassaDiver Hassan Khayal stated, “I wanted to become a PADI Pro to get to share the awe of first-time divers as I watch them conquer their fears and fall in love with the ocean.”

As a PADI Pro, you can be the inspiration for new divers to strive to make significant contributions to ocean conservation.

PADI has a global network of dive professionals and enthusiasts. As a PADI Pro, you’ll be a part of that.

There is no better classroom than the ocean for teaching others about the importance of environmental preservation, and PADI Pros are at the front and center of it all!

In addition to teaching scuba diving, PADI Pros can introduce a fascination and deeper appreciation for the importance of the ocean and its inhabitants.

PADI Pros teach others how to dive responsibly. This can inspire or even be the start of something bigger, such as collecting marine debris, beach cleans or protecting local wildlife.

PADI Pros believe in inclusive diver training and will have the option to train as an Adaptive Techniques Specialty Instructor to become more aware of the considerations required when working with people who have physical or mental challenges.

Through your PADI Pro progression, you’ll be able to teach a variety of dive specialty courses, imparting skills in deep diving, photography or using dive propulsion vehicles (DPVs) to your students.

A career as a PADI Pro can involve leading dives in some of the most famous and the best dive sites in the world.

A career as a PADI Professional offers a lot of opportunity. From the chance to grow as a professional to employment openings around the globe, a career in the scuba diving industry can be anything you want it to be.

Your PADI career can look how you want it to and be wherever you want to go. You can choose to work near home or abroad, full time or part time. You can also decide whether to progress through the ranks or remain as a PADI Divemaster.

PADI Pros can choose between working independently or working through one of the PADI Dive Shops around the globe.

Never undervalue doing something you love for a living.

As Maelly Fure, a PADI AmbassaDiver, shared, “Becoming a PADI Pro helped improve my mental health. It gave me a sense of peace and mindfulness as I spent regular time underwater with incredible marine life.”

Discover what work/life balance best suits you. PADI Pros often enjoy the flexibility to work as a freelance, seasonal or full-time employee.

You’ll be able to work from the day you become a PADI Divemaster. But this is just the first step. There are opportunities to learn and progress up to becoming a PADI Course Director.

Ever thought about how you would do things if you were in charge? Becoming a PADI Pro is a great step in the right direction to owning your own dive center or shop.

Achieving PADI Professional status could open a variety of doors for you. And it’s not just about PADI roles, either. Your next step could be into commercial diving.

PADI Pros have the skills and knowledge to assist with marine research and underwater studies.

Seasonal change may limit diving in certain areas. But as a PADI Pro, you are free to explore and seek out year-round opportunities.

PADI Pros are at the heart of creating sustainable income for communities in crucial marine areas.

PADI’s global recognition allows PADI Professionals to work in every corner of the globe.

PADI Course Director and PADI AmbassaDiver Szilvia Gogh (pictured right after her work as a safety diver on Avatar: The Way of Water) made the most of this. She remembered, “I wanted to become a PADI Pro because it was the key to open the door for me to travel, see the world and be connected to the ocean, from a landlocked communist country.”

The PADI Jobs Board is full of, and continually filling with, jobs around the world open to PADI Pros.

By working at a PADI Resort, Pros don’t just get to live in a place most people choose to vacation, they also enjoy additional perks such as accommodation and meals.

The process of becoming a PADI Pro will give you leadership and decision-making skills which are valuable in every profession.

Adam Sellars, a PADI Ambassadiver and professional freediver, explained, “I became a PADI Pro to be able to share the strategies used by freedivers to increase mental health, mental resilience, through breathwork, meditation and, of course, the wonders of the underwater world!”

As a PADI Pro, you’ll get to meet clients from around the world. You’ll also get to see the world for yourself, if you choose to.

There is a constant and consistent demand for qualified dive instructors around the world.

A PADI Pro’s underwater office can be filled with extraordinary things. Think coral reefs, shipwrecks and whale sharks.

Travel to some of the world’s best and most remote diving spots by working on a liveaboard — and get paid to be there!

Working as a PADI Pro will let you work and help you save the ocean for a living.

As a PADI Pro, you’ll get to teach a wide variety of diver levels, whether that’s completely new divers or divers wanting to become PADI Divemasters.

The PADI Pro community has access to support, materials and ongoing education.

If you love scuba diving, want to make a difference and simply love being in or near the ocean, you’ll be living that dream everyday.

Making this dream reality is why Nouf Alosaimi, PADI AmbassaDiver and PADI Instructor, became a PADI Pro. She told us, “I wanted to combine adventure, education, and conservation into a meaningful career, while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”

PADI Pros play a key role in the fight to save the ocean. From inspiring a new generation to organizing clean-ups, a career in the scuba diving industry is tied to conserving and raising awareness for the ocean — and all other water bodies.

PADI Pros are trained to practice responsible and sustainable diving, and therefore pass this onto their students.

PADI Pros are automatically accredited PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty Instructors. This means PADI Pros can teach every diver the course in addition to making every dive a chance for marine debris collection.

As a PADI Pro, you’re in a prime position to raise ocean conservation awareness.

As Katt Andryskova, PADI AmbassaDiver and PADI Instructor, said it, “Our oceans need our help, and the best way to protect marine life and incredible environments is to help people fall in love with the submarine world. Becoming a PADI Pro makes you a crucial part of this mission.”

As a PADI Pro, you’ll be able to organize and lead ocean cleanups, directly reducing the pollution in the ocean.

Through their guidance, PADI Pros play an integral role in teaching divers how to respect marine ecosystems.

As a PADI Pro, you’ll have a direct line to new divers, allowing you to raise awareness on relevant issues, such as coral bleaching, overfishing, and plastic pollution.

PADI Pros can ensure conservation is a key component of every course they teach.

Amber Sparks, PADI Ambassadiver and joint founder of the Blue Latitudes Foundation, said, “I became a PADI Pro to inspire others to explore and protect the ocean, turning passion into purpose with every dive.”

As a PADI Pro, you’ll be able to support NGOs working on restoration and preservation projects.

By using the experience gained during the training process, PADI Pros can support ecotourism and ensure all diving in their area is responsible.

PADI Pros can drive conversation programs, such as reducing single-use plastics.

Sharing in-depth knowledge helps people understand and inspires them to join the fight. This can be integrated into every course a PADI Pro teaches or every dive they guide.

As Manuel Bustelo, PADI Open Water Instructor and PADI AmbassaDiver, stated, “I became a PADI Pro to enhance my ability to educate and inspire recreational divers, fostering a deeper connection to marine conservation.”

PADI Pros have a direct impact on the next generation of divers. You can choose to make them environmentally conscious and motivated warriors for ocean protection.

Numerous organizations working towards ocean sustainability need help. PADI Pros are able to create a support network for them.

By always exercising sustainable practices, PADI Pros set the example for their students and others around to follow.

In addition to preventing damage to existing reefs, PADI Pros can help boost interest and participation in coral restoration programs.

PADI Pros can protect reefs by ensuring new divers follow the best practices for minimizing impact on coral reefs.

Promoting, demonstrating and teaching conservation-minded diving ensures marine environment preservation is valued.

PADI Pros can use their platform to act as an Ocean Torchbearer and share the importance of ocean conservation, while also encouraging participation in the movement.

PADI Pros are ideally placed to get involved with citizen science projects. This could be seagrass restoration, wildlife protection, or even an idea you come up with yourself.

PADI Pros are in the water most days. This regularity makes them the ideal candidates to help monitor coral reef health through assessment and documentation.

PADI Pros get to show divers the importance of the diverse marine life and the roles each organism plays in the natural world.

PADI is the only training agency to have a seat at the international policy table. Through their actions and voices, PADI Pros help guide PADI’s direction in these discussions.

As a PADI Pro, you can help raise awareness for ocean conservation and share your knowledge.
